Welcome to more of our deck building journey!
My first post explained a little about what went into our decision to build a deck at our new home. There are so many factors to consider when designing an outdoor space.
We knew we wanted a very large deck that would be a place for lots of entertaining with family and friends. It came out to be about 650 square feet. My husband did not want it to be that large because he was the one building it but ultimately, I persuaded him over to my side. 😉 It just made sense for it to be the entire width of the house and I knew it would look fabulous!
Here is what it looked like with the under framing going in. My husband and one of my sons were hard at work here! This project truly was a family affair! Using BuildDirect made it so easy! We had several samples shipped to us and they arrived within 2 days. We chose DuraLife capped composite decking in the Siesta profile in Coastal Gray. The decking is a polypropylene based capped composite formula which makes it very strong and durable. The light color was a perfect contrast with our dark house. We definitely knew this is what we wanted! Maintenance free too!
After we chose the decking boards, which you can shop for here we focused on railings and balusters. So many great options out there and we wanted to choose something that set our deck apart yet was still classic and timeless. We chose to do white posts, with a white top and bottom rail and black aluminum balusters. While we had thought about doing iron or steel, we ultimately decided completely maintenance free where no rusting would happen was the way to go for us. We also chose to completely hide the underneath of the deck with white pvc to give it a clean look and so no pressure treated wood showed. The risers (backs) of the stairs are white fascia.
I was getting so excited to have this deck done so we could use this fantastic space! The products from BuildDirect were everything we had hoped they would be and we were so impressed! In my next post, I will have more photos of the finished deck and talk about the Pro Rewards program they have for home improvement professionals. My final post will cover the 2 parties we have had on the deck and my thoughts on how it holds up to the elements and lots of people and food! A beautiful but functional outdoor space is a must in my book!
